Water Leak - Dodge Dakota

THIS IS ONE REPAIR FOR A LEAK
THAT COULD HAVE UP TO THREE POSSIBLE CAUSES.

Complaint

Water leaking onto the passenger's front floor area.

Cause Split seam at the top of the cowl and dash seam.
Testing Procedure

Use a shower stand water test for 5 to 15 minutes as shown in photo.

Diagnosis

Water running in during the water test and can be seen dripping in from the cowl / dash seams.

Repair

1. Area of customer's complaint, passenger's front floor area.
Customer placed paper towel in area of leak.  

2. Using a trim plug puller to assist, remove scuff plate.

3. Scuff plate and kick pad are removed.

4. Pull back carpet and remove all wet damaged detner. 

5.  Remove any standing water.

6.  Rag dry floor.

7.  Run shower test.

8. Water was seen leaking in from the top dash area.

9. Shown here is a view of the cowl dash seam where water can be seen coming down while water testing.

10. Apply dum dum to seal this split seam.

11. Once sealed by feathering the dum dum over the complete seam, verify the repair by re-water testing.

12.  Once repair has been verified, spray liquid metal over the dum dum.

13.  Shown here is the total area having been sprayed with liquid metal.

14.  Replace all wet damaged detner.  (SEE TECH TIPS BELOW.)

15.  Reinstall carpet.  (SEE TECH TIPS BELOW.)

16.  Reinstall kick pad and scuff plate.

17.   Deodorize as needed.  (SEE TECH TIPS BELOW.)

Tech Tips

Replace wet damaged detner and use a wet vac to remove excess water from carpets, as illustrated below.
Deodorize, as necessary.

1. Pull back carpet from damaged detner.

2. Using a detner knife, cut remaining damaged detner away from carpet .

3. As necessary, spray floor area with deodorizer.

4. Wipe dry.

5. Replace detner.

6. Use trim cement spray glue to secure new detner.

7. Finished look.

Use a wet vac to remove excess water from carpets.

Very Important Message: Although we demonstrate the steps to repair a complaint, it does not mean that the current repair is the ONLY repair nor the ONLY cause for a leak with the same complaint.
